In the complex tapestry of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, this paper embarks on a qualitative exploration of Yusuf Al-Qaradawi's endorsement of the fatwa promoting the boycott of pro-Israel brands. As one of Egypt's distinguished Muslim scholars, Qaradawi's stance holds significant weight in shaping opinions within the Islamic community. This research employs a qualitative methodology to unravel the intricacies of Qaradawi's viewpoint on the boycott and, concurrently, sheds light on his reflections concerning the roots of the prolonged conflict between the Palestinian and Israeli peoples. Delving into Qaradawi's perspectives requires a nuanced understanding of the cultural, historical, and religious dimensions he incorporates into his endorsement of the boycott. Through a qualitative content analysis of Qaradawi's writings, speeches, and sermons, this study seeks to decipher the layers of his convictions, providing a human touch to the academic exploration. It aims to revisit and describe how the notion of boycotting pro-Israel brands intertwines with the ongoing struggles in the region from Qaradawi's lens, offering a more relatable and contextualized comprehension of his position.The paper further engages in a qualitative analysis of Qaradawi's arguments endorsing the fatwa, unraveling the motivations and ideological foundations that underpin his advocacy. As a comparative qualitative analysis, this study extends its exploration to include the perspectives of the Majelis Ulama Indonesia (MUI), offering a rich tapestry of Islamic viewpoints on the matter. This comparative lens not only highlights the diversity within Islamic scholarship but also humanizes the discourse surrounding the pro-Israel brands boycott.

This jurnal explores the significance of boycotting products suspected of supporting genocide within the framework of international law. The complex relationship between human rights, state responsibility to prevent genocide, and the international community's response to violations of international norms is at the heart of this investigation. The study defines boycott as a form of isolation undertaken by individuals or groups against an entity, encompassing actions like blacklisting, embargoes, and blockades, targeting various products from consumer goods to academic and sports products. Governments, either individually or collectively, issue boycott resolutions, as exemplified by Arab countries' historic boycott against Israel. The paper also introduces other forms of boycotts, such as investment withdrawal, divestment, and sanctions, citing examples like Sudan. Framing the discussion within the context of the United Nations Genocide Convention, the jurnal argues that product boycotts can serve as tools for enforcing compliance with the convention, holding states accountable for preventing genocide. Moreover, product boycotts play a vital role in the international public sphere, mobilizing global public opinion and exerting social, economic, and political pressure on perpetrators of genocide. The study addresses critical questions, focusing on the role of product boycotts as sanctions in international law and their impact on garnering global support and pressuring perpetrators, while providing a voice to victims. Recently, consumer boycott has been used as an economic weapon and a tool of passive resistance. There are several dimensions to consumer boycott, which serves as a means for Muslim communities to assert their will and to make their voices heard. This study primarily examines the legal (fiqhi) justifications for consumer boycott. The main objective of the study is to identify the reasons (causes) that lead Muslims to engage in consumer boycott. In addition, a secondary objective of our study is to present the problems that may arise in issuing fatwas in relation to the identified causes and abiding by the consequences of these causes. The qualitative analysis method was used to achieve the objective of the study. This analysis was largely carried out using literature and content analysis techniques. Classical jurisprudential principles (uṣūl al-fiqh), principles of issuing fatwas (uṣūl al-iftā), consideration of consequences (i‛tibār al-ma’ālāt) and principles of Islamic governance (al-siyāsah al-shar‛iyyah) were also highlighted in the research methodology. According to our findings, the concept of boycott is not commonly found in classical jurisprudential sources. The rulings on boycott are more implicitly addressed in issues regulating commercial relations with non-Muslims. As far as contemporary literature is concerned, there are numerous studies on Muslim consumer boycott from different perspectives. However, there is a gap in the literature regarding the identification of the cause of boycott. As a result, four causes of boycott have been identified: “disrespect for Muslim dignity”, “insulting religious values”, “supporting the enemy in a state of war with Muslims”, and “political interests and general welfare of Muslims”. Some issues related to the practical application of these grounds are also discussed. In addition, the author raises the question of whether threatening the ḥalâl and healthy nutrition of Muslim communities is a reason for boycott and suggests it as a topic for further research.
