The complete nucleotide sequence of a Spanish isolate of Citrus psorosis virus: comparative analysis with other ophioviruses

Abstract: The complete genomic sequence (11278 nt) of Citrus psorosis virus (CPsV), isolate P-121 from Spain, was determined and compared with those from isolate CPV-4 and from other ophioviruses. The three RNAs of P-121 had similar size and identical organization as those of CPV-4. The 24K and the RdRp proteins were potentially encoded in the viral complementary (vc) strand of RNA 1, the 54K protein potentially encoded in vcRNA 2 and the coat protein encoded in vcRNA 3. These four proteins from P-121 and CPV-4 had 87, … Show more

“…Near the end of the intergenic region, a typical AAUAAA polyadenylation signal is found 12 nt upstream of the CA start polyadenylation site [39]. However, these sequences were not found for the CPsV Spanich isolate P-121 [34], neither for MiLBVV (intergenic region of 147 nt, 66 % of A ? U), and LRNV (intergenic region of 80 nt, 65 % of A ?…”

“…Virus particles are formed by three single-stranded, negative sense RNAs and a coat protein (CP) of 48 kDa (Derrick et al, 1988;Martı´n et al, 2005). RNA1 contains 8184 bp and its complementary strand has two ORFs potentially encoding a 24 kDa protein of unknown function and a 280 kDa protein with motifs characteristic of RNA-dependent RNA polymerases (RdRp).…”

“…CPsV, the type species of the genus Ophiovirus, has a genome consisting of three single-stranded RNAs of negative polarity that have been totally sequenced (Martín et al 2005), while CVV, a definitive species of the genus Ilarvirus, family Bromoviridae has a tripartite, positive-sense single-stranded RNA genome (Scott and Ge 1995;Li et al 2008).…”
