The complete mitochondrial genome of the longhorn beetle, Massicus raddei

Abstract: We sequenced the complete mitochondrial genome of Massicus raddei, which is the first beetle sequenced in Cerambycinae to date. The complete mitochondrial genome is 15,585 bp in length with an A + T content of 71.82%, and contains 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNAs, 22 tRNAs and a control region. The gene order and orientation are similar to that of typical insect species. These data will provide useful molecular information for phylogenetic relationships among the suborders of Coleoptera. By using 13 protein-co… Show more

“…The most frequent stop codon is TAA with 11 PCGs followed by TAG with two PCGs (Table 2). These genomic features are highly consistent among Polyphaga species (Gillett et al, 2014;Haran et al, 2013;Wang et al, 2014).…”

“…The A + T content of these genes in A. superciliosus showed similar values (Supplementary Table 1) when compared to its relatives within the suborder Polyphaga (Gillett et al, 2014;Haran et al, 2013;Wang et al, 2014), with the highest A + T content (81.54%) found for the ATP8 gene and the lowest (69.57%) for the COX1 gene (Supplementary Table 1). In addition, it is well known that in invertebrates, mitochondrial PCGs commonly use several alternatives to ATG as start codons (Boore, 1999).…”

“…In order to reconstruct the phylogenetic relationships of Lamiinae, we used 13 protein-coding genes of 24 species, which contained Galeruca daurica as the outgroup (Kim et al 2009;Lu et al 2011;Chiu et al 2016;Fang et al 2016;Guo et al 2016;Li et al 2016;Wang et al 2016;Lim et al 2017;Liu et al 2017;Yang et al 2017;Liu et al 2018;Que et al 2019;Wang, Lan, et al 2019). MrBayes version 3.2 and the RAxML version 8 programs (Ronquist et al 2012;Stamatakis 2014) were used to construct BI and ML trees, respectively (Figure 1).…”
