The complete chloroplast genome of a Chinese medicinal plant, Peristrophe japonica (Thunb.) Bremek. (Lamiales: Acanthaceae) from Nanjing, China

Abstract: Peristrophe japonica (Thunb.) Bremek. is a widely distributed medicinal plant species in China and Japan. In this study, the complete chloroplast genome sequence of P. japonica was assembled and characterized from high-throughput sequencing data. The chloroplast genome is 151,374 bp in length, consisting of a large single-copy (LSC) and a small single-copy (SSC) regions of 83,395 bp and 17,073 bp, respectively, which were separated by a pair of 25,453 bp inverted repeat (IR) regions. The overall GC content of … Show more

“…The close relationship between Buddleja lindleyana with genus Scrophularia was confirmed by the recent complete chloroplast genome analysis[38]. Similarly, the complete chloroplast genome analysis of Peristrophe japonica indicated its close relationship with Scrophularia and Asystasiella[39].All the plants of the genus Mentha were clustered together, which fits well with the results of either classical morphological classification or molecular studies. Since the genus Mentha was established in 1753 by the Linnaeus, scholars have conducted extensive research on the genus in terms of morphology, cytology, physiology, biochemistry, phytochemistry and molecular biology.…”

“…The chloroplast genome data provide useful information for conducting phylogeny, molecular markers, and population genetics ( Daniell et al ., 2016 ). In Acanthaceae, chloroplast genomes of some species, such as Avicennia marina , Aphelandra knappiae , Peristrophe japonica , Barleria prionitis , Strobilanthes biocullata and Justicia species, were sequenced and described ( Chen et al, 2021 ; Niu et al, 2023 ). Previously, complete cpDNAs of Dicliptera species, including D. montana , D. acuminata , D. peruviana , D. ruiziana , and D. mucronata were reported, but that of D. tinctoria has not yet been characterized ( Huang et al, 2020 ).…”
