This article describes the finite element analysis of concrete columns with a hollow square reinforced which restricted with a square Carbon-Fiber-Reinforced polymer (CFRP) tube. In this study, about sixteen square hollow core columns were investigated. These columns were classified into four sets. The set number one was the reference set which involved four unconfined reinforced columns with traditional steel helices and longitudinal steel bars. The columns of the 2nd category have a similar configuration as the set number one except that these columns were restricted outwardly by the CFRP tube. The columns of the set number were restricted outwardly by a CFRP tube and restricted inwardly by a steel tube. Finally, the columns of the 4th category do not have a steel reinforcement where they produced with only an outer CFRP tube and an inner steel tube. These columns were exposed to various loading conditions: concentric, eccentric (22 and 44) mm, and four bendings' points. It was investigated that the CFRP tube confinement faintly improved the columns’ strength. Moreover, the use of a steel tube as inner confinement in the columns with a hollow section led to improve the structural performance and ductility.

This review article addresses the problems associated with the carbon footprint of the cement industry. The PRISMA framework methodology was for data extraction from published studies. In-depth research has been done in the literature on using silica fume as a cement replacement in concrete production, considering environmental, engineering, and economic (EEE) factors. The strength, durability, and economic parameters results revealed a positive variation of up to 5–20% substitution of silica fume. However, most past studies reported the threshold at a 10% replacement ratio. A novel benefit-cost ratio analysis was also done in this review study. The benefit-cost ratio analysis reveals the economically beneficial effects that can be achieved in sustainable silica fume-based concrete with a (5–20%) silica fume combination. The benefit-cost ratio showed positive effects, up to 20% cement replacement with silica fume. Hence, the higher cement replacement with silica fume is also beneficial in terms of the benefit-cost ratio. Further research has been proposed based on the findings of this review study. The influence of crude oil (CRO) pollution on concrete compressive strength and durability performance is evaluated in this work. Due to CRO contamination on its compositions, concrete exposed to oil-prone areas may lead to considerable changes in its properties. Experimental work has been conducted, and several cubes of concrete with varying ratios of CRO pollution were treated to study the impact of pollution on the mechanical characteristics of the concrete. The current research methodology consists of preparing contaminants by mixing CRO in different ratios with fine aggregates and mixing it with other raw materials to produce polluted concrete. Twelve CRO ratios (0, 1, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 15, 20, and 25%) were utilized to test typical concrete slump, compressive, and tensile strength. Then, the same concrete procedure and testing were repeated by utilizing 2% CRO in the case of reactive powder concrete. The chemical test was also utilized to identify the changes in concrete composition for the three samples (standard concrete without CRO, standard concrete with 2% CRO, and reactive powder concrete sample). The experimental tests illustrated that a ratio of 2% of CRO in standard concrete improves compressive and tensile strength, while utilizing the same ratio in reactive powder concrete reduces strength. On the other hand, utilizing 2% CRO illustrates that the internal sulfate amount has been increased for both normal and reactive powder concrete compared with normal concrete samples without CRO, which refers to a reduction in concrete durability.
