The combination of carbonate hydroxyapatite and human β-defensin 3 to enhance collagen fibre density in periodontitis Sprague Dawley rats

Abstract: Background: Carbonate hydroxyapatite (CHA) is used as a scaffold to repair bone resorption. Alveolar bone resorption in periodontitis caused by an infection requires the presence of an antibacterial to support bone regeneration. Human β-defensin 3 (HBD3) is an antimicrobial peptide. The local application of the HBD3 antimicrobial is beneficial to inhibiting drug resistance and protecting tissue regeneration against invasive bacteria. Purpose: This study aims to investigate the effect of the administration of a… Show more

“…Rats from each group were ligated to induce gingivitis, a 3 mm silk ligature tied to the gingival margin of the mandibular incisors for 7 days to produce gingivitis, with the appearance of the gingiva becoming red and swollen. 17 The gel preparation material was applied to the gingival sulcus based on each group. The application is done once a day, with one swipe by microbrush.…”

“…Criteria for valuation are: score 1 showed collagen fiber density is less than 50% with less dense tissue structure, vascularization, mononuclear cells, and many cells can be found (Figure 1-A); score 2 showed collagen fiber density is more than 50% with more dense Figure 1. Criteria for valuation collagen density A=score 1, B=score 2, C=score 3 (Tandelilin et al, 2006) Application of Ozonated Olive Oil as Adjunctive Therapy After Periodontal Pocket tissue structure, less inflammatory reaction (Figure 1-B); and score 3 showed avascular and acellular collagen fibrous density (Figure 1-C) (Tandelilin et al, 2006;Andriani et al, 2020). All the results were statistically analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests.…”

“…This study aimed to determine the density of collagen in alveolar bone on the periodontitis healing process in adjunctive topical application of ozonated olive oil after periodontal pocket curettage. A successful parameter in the wound healing process and bone formation process is the presence of collagen (Andriani et al, 2020). Increased collagen deposition in the wound area is generally related to the faster wound healing process (Putra et al, 2020).…”

“…Carbonate hydroxyapatite (CHA) has been shown to increase the bioactivity and degree of osteoconductivity, due to its greater solubility than noncarbonated HA [ 34 ]. Increased collagen production by osteoblast cells was evidenced on the CHA, ascribed to increased extracellular calcium concentrations that resulted greatly higher in cell culture medium containing CHA, which promoted the secretion of type I collagen [ 35 ].…”
