Urban vitality, a critical concept that differentiates thriving cities from others, is a characteristic that infuses life into a city and stimulates its activity. This study in their objectives examines the underlying factors contributing to the vitality of urban spaces, with a specific emphasis on safety and security. A methodology that depends on the identification of a framework of five key elements -density, accessibility, social interaction, surveillance, and activities -is put forward as vital to urban vitality. The presence of these elements is postulated to be contingent on the provision of safety and security in urban environments, and their influence is believed to extend to the duration and nature of human engagement with these spaces. The open space of the religious center in Kufa City, Iraq provides the contextual setting for this investigation. These factors were measured by utilizing the Geographic Information System (GIS) data, supplemented with field surveys and observation, to measure indicators of the aforementioned elements within the study area. Additionally, statistical methods are employed to quantify some of these indicators. The findings suggest a satisfactory level of vitality within the study area, as the majority of the proposed indicators are met. This is largely attributed to the presence of safety and security measures. However, the study also identifies areas for improvement, particularly in the regulation of land use and the management of vehicle speed on roads leading to the open space.

Biophilic planning is one of the important trends in achieving sustainability and nature conservation, especially in areas that contain natural elements. Since in the case of climate change and urban encroachment on natural habitats, taking care of nature and investing its components properly is a necessity, not a choice. As well as the agreement among many researchers about the social, economic and environmental benefits provided by biophilic planning, which is based mainly on the idea of connecting people with nature. This study aims to provide a guide to planners, urban designers, and decision-makers, including how to deal with residential neighborhoods that contain natural elements such as rivers by depending on a specific methodology based on previous literature and deriving effective indicators in this type of neighborhood. The results of the theoretical framework showed that there are eleven effective indicators, some of which are measured by descriptive methods and some by quantitative methods. These indicators have been applied in one of the neighborhoods of the Iraqi Kufa City overlooking the Euphrates River. Measuring of Subjective and Objective Aesthetics in Planning and Urban Design

The article includes the concept of aesthetics through what has been dealt with in the literature by philosophers and researchers who have addressed this concept in an attempt to derive indicators of aesthetics. The article adopted a descriptive and analytical methodology by reviewing recent literature on the concept of aesthetics and its relation to urban planning and design issues. Many subjective and objective aesthetics indicators have been identified, some of which are classified under real aesthetics, and some under fake aesthetics. The indicators were applied to the Kufa Mosque complex and Sahla Mosque complex as a comparative case study. It was found that the indicators of real aesthetics have a higher weight in determining the final aesthetic judgment on the complex form versus the fake indicators, which in turn reinforced the weighting of the subjective aspect over the objective. This was consistent with the answer to the question directed to the sample about which complexes are more aesthetic. The answer was that the Kufa Mosque complex is most aesthetically. This was proven by the questions directed in the questionnaire, which outweighed the real aesthetic indicators for the Kufa Mosque complex.
