“…Saguinus. Previous investigators found that the diploid number for both S.fuscicollis and S. oedipus was 46 [Bender and M ettler, 1960;Benirschke and Br o w n h il l , 1962; Egozcue et a!., 1968b;Egozcue et al, 1969]. In our laboratories, 4 species of the genus, 5. fuscicollis and S. mystax of the hairyfaced tamarin group, and 5. leucopus, S. oedipus oedipus, and S. o. geoffroyi of the bare-faced tamarin groups were examined.…”

“…Bender and Mettler [1958], Staton [cited by Brumback et al, 1971], Egozcue et al [1969] and Egozcue [1971] agree in their results for Aotus trivirgatus, showing a diploid number of 54 in their karyotypes; C hiarelli [1963] described a specimen with 2n = 50, and Brumback et al [1971] and D e Boer [1971,1972,1974] described karyotypes with diploid numbers of 54, 53 and 52 resulting from Robertsonian polymorphism of Aotus trivirgatus griseimembra. Brumback et al [1971] found a diploid number of 54 for Aotus trivirgatus trivirgatus with a karyotype so different from that of A.t.grisei-membra that they suggested a taxonomical revision.…”

“…Staton [1967] also reported a diploid count of 54, again from a single male individual, and tentatively suggested the presence of 34 subterminal and 18 terminal autosomes. One additional study of a single male individual [Egozcue et a!., 1969] has also suggested a diploid number of 54.…”
