The Characterization of a Novel Phage, pPa_SNUABM_DT01, Infecting Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Abstract: The bacterial genus Pseudomonas is a common causative agent of infections in veterinary medicine. In this study, we focused on Pseudomonas aeruginosa canine otitis externa isolates. Due to prolonged antibiotic treatment of otitis externa, antibiotic resistance is common and has become a major complication. Many alternatives to antibiotics have been studied, with bacteriophages emerging as the most promising alternatives. Here, we isolated and characterized a novel phage, pPa_SNUABM_DT01, by investigating its m… Show more

“…Among the 82 ORFs annotated from the phage phiA034 genome, only 31 ORFs (37.8%) had known functions, and the rest were hypothetical proteins or unknown functions. Similar findings were reported by Hao (2016 ), Chanjuan (2013 ), Kwon et al. (2021 ), Deyuan et al.…”

“…In the TEM imaging of Phage K (Figure 1C), which belongs to the Myoviridae family genomically and morphologically; confirmed by the presence of an icosahedral shaped head, contractile sheathed tail, and a complex baseplate with knob‐like structures at the end of the tail. [ 51,73,74 ] In Figure 1D, the tail is contracted and the tail tube is clearly visible.…”

“…The experiment was performed similarly to those described elsewhere [ 38 ]. The lytic efficiency of the two new bacteriophages was determined using suspensions with different phage and bacteria ratios (at the most effective MOI determined in the previous experiment: 0.001, 0.01, 0.1, and 1.0).…”
