The Characteristics of Demineralized Dentin Material Sponge as Guided Bone Regeneration Based on the FTIR and SEM-EDX Tests

Abstract: Objective The objective of this study was to determine the characteristics of demineralized dentin material sponge (DDMS). Material and Methods An observational study was conducted on DDMS and BPCM. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) test was performed to determine the characterizations of the materials. Scanning electron microscope-electron dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDX) test was performed to observe the elements contained in the materials. Results The infrared spectrum of the DDMS… Show more

“…However, to date, no animal or human studies have been performed which compare the demineralizing agents used for its production. In vitro elemental analysis of bovine DDM compared with bovine bone-derived matrix revealed that the DDM contains chlorine and calcium in higher concentrations, and this may explain the difference in the osteoconductivity reported between the materials ( Mulyawan et al, 2022 ). Furthermore, it has been proposed that due to the difference between the molecular composition and development of dentin and bone, the extracellular matrices and connective tissue derived from both of these tissues would not only be different but would exert different effects at the implantation site (J. Kim et al, 2021).…”

“…Furthermore, autologous demineralized dentin represents a source of autogenous growth factors for bone regeneration. 42 Nowadays, the autogenous tooth could be considered as a novel and innovative graft material. 43 The strong points in favor of using such material are it is totally autogenous, it does not require an additional surgical site for harvesting bone graft, the dentin structure and composition are very similar to that of bone, it has been shown to contain BMP-2, that is made available by the demineralization procedure, giving to the material with interesting properties.…”
