“…An experimental, blinded, randomized, cross‐over study with eight adults, healthy, isoflurane‐anaesthetized horses by Risberg, Ranheim, Krontveit, Lervik, and Haga () compared a PIVA protocol with dexmedetomidine (8 μg/kg for sedation followed by a 1.75 μg kg −1 hr −1 CRI) versus a saline treatment. At equivalent depths of anaesthesia (F E ′ISO 0.7% ± 0.2% and 0.9% ± 0.2%, for the dexmedetomidine and saline, respectively), statistical significant decreases in HR (16%), CI (22%) and DO 2 I (24%) and significant increases in SAP (18%), MAP (19%), DAP (18%) and oxygen extraction (OE) (32%) were present in horses receiving a CRI of dexmedetomidine compared to those receiving saline.…”
