The C-reactive protein to albumin ratio is an excellent prognostic predictor for gallbladder cancer

Abstract: A number of inflammation indicators based on C-reactive protein (CRP) and albumin have been widely used to predict the prognosis in several types of tumors, but their functions in gallbladder cancer (GBC) have rarely been explored. The aim of our study is to evaluate and compare the prognostic values of the C-reactive protein to albumin ratio (CAR), Glasgow prognostic score (GPS), modified Glasgow prognostic score (mGPS) and high-sensitivity modified Glasgow prognostic score (HS-mGPS) in patients with GBC. 144… Show more

“…The ratio was originally suggested to forecast the prognosis of acute hospitalized patients ( 7 ). Recently, various centers have explored the application of CAR as a prognostic biomarker for kinds of cancers, including gastric cancer ( 8 ), colorectal cancer ( 9 ), non-small-cell lung cancer ( 10 ), gallbladder cancer ( 11 ), etc. As for urinary neoplasms, a lot of studies have examined the prognostic value of CAR in RCC.…”

“…Multiple studies have demonstrated that some ratios and scores based on peripheral inflammatory cells, including NLR, PLR, LMR, Hs-mGPS, CAR, and SII, have been identified as prognostic biomarkers in various solid malignancies such as lung cancer, osteosarcoma, and gallbladder cancer. 22 25 NLR, PLR, LMR, Hs-mGPS, SII, and CAR are the prevailing inflammation prognostic biomarkers based on routine blood examinations, which can be widely available without additional costs. 22 , 26 , 27 According to the ratio or combination of inflammatory immune and nutritional factors, these inflammation biomarkers may be more valuable.…”

“…28 Bao et al verified that CAR was a risk factor for poor prognosis, together with clinicopathological parameters in gallbladder cancer. 25 In addition, the systemic inflammatory response was correlated with the prognosis of pediatric solid tumors, but relatively fewer reports than in adults. 9,29 Several studies have revealed that inflammatory cytokines play important roles in pediatric solid tumors.…”

“…Recently, the CAR has been highlighted as a predictor of poor prognosis in various clinical conditions, including atherosclerotic disease and cancer. 11,12,38,39 A recent study showed that PAD patients in the high-CAR group based on a cut-off median value had a higher incidence of all-cause death and amputation after undergoing EVT. 35 Our study also showed similar results, indicating that CAR has a significant impact on predicting lesion complexity and future clinical outcomes in PAD patients treated with EVT.…”
