The Buddha Images and Conservation and Adherence to Cultural Values in Northeast

Problem statement: Currently people in general dislike listening to dharma because they view that it is only a ritual. Three major reasons why people dislike listening to dharma include: preachers themselves, preaching contents and presenting methods. The reasons as mentioned can cause people not to like listening to dharma. Faith in Buddhism gradually decreases. Purposes: To examine the background of preaching in Isan society, to examine current conditions and problems of Isan people and to investigate the uses of preaching arts for increasing faith in Buddhism of Isan people. Approach: The qualitative research methodology was used. Documentary date and field data were collected. Research instruments included: a survey form, an interview form, an observation form, focus group discussion and workshop. Research area covered the Provinces of KhonKaen, Maha Sarakham and Roi-Ed. The sample consisted of 60 informants. The collected data were checked using the triangulation technique and were analyzed mainly upholding the research purposes. Then the research findings were presented by means of a descriptive analysis. Results: Preaching began in the period of the Lord Buddha. The Lord Himself was the preaching initiator. Later, holy Buddhist monks, His followers, were preachers of sermons to people in general and the preaching has been practiced in adherence endlessly up to present. As for the background of preaching in Isan, its age cannot be certainly determined. When the preaching began and who the initiator was unknown. However, it is surely believed that Isan people have accepted and believed in Buddhism since the ancient time. They have adhered to Buddhism endlessly. The Buddhism monks are preachers. According to the available evidence, of the belief that there were real karma, increment of the belief in the there were real effects of deeds, to increase the belief that world creatures had their own karma, to increase beliefs in the Lord Buddhas intelligences of enlightenment. Also, listeners to dharma had faith in the three Gems, the Buddha, the dharma and the Sangka. Conclusion: Can be summarized that the used of preaching arts for increasing faith in Buddhism of Isan people could provide 4 appropriate types of preaching. They were auspicious activities, inauspicious activities, traditional merit-makings and specific merit-makings. The contents were adjusted to suit the time and to suit current situations. Appropriate arts were obtained for increasing faith and stability of Isan society

Problem statement: Buddha image is a symbol which built for representing the Buddha. At present, the majority of people always misinterpret and misevaluate the real value of Buddha image. As a matter of fact, Buddha image enhances social solidarity and social networks of Northeast-Thai people. Appreciating value of Buddha image is necessary for next generation so a study of Buddhist Philosophy towards Buddha images and current problems concerning interpretation and evaluation is a serious study. This research aimed at investigating a body of knowledge of Buddhist Philosophy towards Buddha image and current problems concerning interpretation and evaluation of Buddha image according to Buddhist Philosophy. Approach: Research areas were Ubon Ratchathani Province, Yasothon Province and Maha Sarakham Province. A sample of 116 people consisted of a group of key informants, a group of casual informants and a group of general informants. Research instruments were an observation, a survey, an interview and a focus group interview. Research data were examined by means of a triangulation technique and research results were presented by means of a descriptive analysis.

Ethics Camp: The Appropriate Management Model for Northeastern Region Youth, Ecclesiastical Region 9

Problem statement: Youth's ethics tended to be a continuous increased problem and they were in their age without judgment. Youths were very important for national development in future, if their problems were not urgently solved it would overall effect to way of live in their families, communities, socials and Thailand. Approach: This research aimed to study backgrounds, current conditions, problems on management and the appropriate management model of Ethics Camp for the Northeastern Region Youth, Ecclesiastical Region 9. The study was a qualitative research conducted in 4 provinces 1 place of the Northeastern Region Youth, Ecclesiastical Region 9 and Thailand. Observation form, survey form, interview form, focus group discussion and study shop were used as research tools. Triangulation was used to test all data and data was analyzed by descriptive research. Results: The result founded that the background in overall of 4 places were began by making study trips of directors or lecturing monks at famous camp and they, later, brought those models back to establish ethics camps in their own provinces. For current conditions and problems, it was found that; in aspect of personnel-there was lacking of competent personnel, in aspect of budget-there was lacking of budget for expenses, in aspect of material-some place had old and damaged equipments, in aspect of management-there was not enough budget for long-term training and also lacking of lecturing monks, in aspect of marketing-there was lacking of public relation and distinct documents of courses and in aspect of technological innovation-lecturing monks had no knowledge to produce modern technological media. For appropriate management model, it was found that; in aspect of personnel-camp directors should have wide and long vision, intelligence, perseverance, honesty and human relation while lecturing monks must be professional; in aspect of budget-charges for any expenses should be depended on situations; in aspect of financial management-should be in form systematic study with committees and asked for supporting from related agencies; in aspect of material-should have safety, cleanliness and peace that was good environment for training while training equipments should be modern, attractive and met requirements of trainees; in aspect of operations as course analysis-should analyze the appropriateness of trainees' age, maturity and requirement, course development-other subjects should be integrated into training courses, training operation-should be trained in form of demonstration, evaluation-should be conducted by observation, document and expression feeling in trainees' mind; in aspect of marketing-should provide services with friendliness and publicized camps in websites ; in aspect of technological innovation-should produce modern media, apply for the appropriateness of trainees' maturity and also analyze such media before using.
