ABSTRACT. In this work, the effect of vinasse pre-treatment and anatase content in the photocatalytic degradation of sugarcane vinasse was evaluated. The in nature vinasse was pretreated by coagulation/flocculation using vegetal tannin as coagulant and diluted 1: 2 with deionized water. The photocatalytic tests with in nature, pretreated and diluted vinasse were performed for 48 hours under UV radiation using 1 g of catalyst: TiO 2 Kronos calcined at 300 o C (100% anatase) and 1000 o C (34% anatase) and TiO 2 P25 (87% anatase). The process of coagulation/flocculation removed about 50, 85 and 97% of COD, color and turbidity of in nature vinasse, respectively. The results showed that despite the slight COD decrease of in nature vinasse, its toxicity was significantly reduced after photocatalytic treatment, especially when TiO 2 -34 and TiO 2 -87 were used. This behavior shows that the mixture of anatase and rutile phases showed a positive synergistic effect. Regarding pre-treatment of vinasse, the coagulation/flocculation process was more efficient, promoting the greatest reductions of COD (67%) and toxicity (up to 10 times).Keywords: vinasse, coagulation/flocculation, photocatalysis, toxicity.Fotodegradação da vinhaça: avaliação do efeito do pré-tratamento da vinhaça e da fase cristalina do TiO 2 RESUMO. Neste trabalho, foi avaliado o efeito do pré-tratamento da vinhaça e do teor de anatase na degradação fotocatalítica da vinhaça. A vinhaça in natura foi pré-tratada por coagulação/floculação usando tanino vegetal como coagulante e diluição 1:2 com água deionizada. Os testes fotocatalíticos com a vinhaça in natura, pré-tratada e diluída foram realizados durante 48h sob radiação UV utilizando 1 g de catalisador: TiO 2 Kronos calcinado a 300 o C (100% anatase) e a 1000 o C (34% anatase) e TiO 2 P25 (87% anatase). O processo de coagulação/floculação removeu cerca de 50, 85 e 97% de DQO, cor e turbidez da vinhaça in natura, respectivamente. Os resultados mostraram que apesar da pequena redução de DQO da vinhaça in natura, sua toxicidade foi reduzida significativamente após tratamento fotocatalítico, principalmente quando TiO 2 -34 e TiO 2 -87 foram utilizados. Esse comportamento evidencia que a mistura das fases anatase e rutile apresentou efeito sinérgico positivo. Em relação ao pré-tratamento da vinhaça, o processo de coagulação/floculação se mostrou mais eficiente, promovendo as maiores reduções de DQO (67%) e toxicidade (até 10 vezes).Palavras-chave: vinhaça, coagulação/floculação, fotocatálise, toxicidade.

Artigo recebido em 24/07/2015 e aceito para publicação em 20/06/2016 RESUMO:A agroindústria canavieira em Goiás conviveu, durante o auge de sua expansão na segunda metade da década de 2000, com um "gargalo" relacionado à falta de mão de obra qualificada. Essa situação ocorreu na medida em que o avanço nos projetos de mecanização e as particularidades do cultivo da cana-deaçúcar nas condições naturais de Cerrado exigiam trabalhadores que a região não estava preparada para fornecer. Trazer esses profissionais de fora -em geral, de São Paulo -acarretava em aumento dos salários e na consequente redução da rentabilidade dos investimentos. Ademais, havia o problema de poucos deles se adaptarem às pequenas cidades do interior de Goiás, onde se instalaram as usinas. Nosso objetivo é analisar os mecanismos que permitiram à região minimizar os efeitos da ausência de mão de obra qualificada, apoiando o desenvolvimento da agroindústria canavieira. O artigo discorre sobre a expansão da produção de açúcar e etanol em Goiás entre 2006 e 2013 e como criou-se uma demanda e oferta por mão de obra apta ao trabalho nas usinas. Palavras-Chave: Agroindústria canavieira; mão de obra qualificada; instituições de ensino e pesquisa.ABSTRACT: Sugarcane agroindustry in the state Goiás, during the moment of boom in the second of the 2000s, had to deal with an obstacle related to the lack of skilled labor. It occurred insofar as mechanization projects moved forward and the conditions of producing in Brazilian Savannas brought the necessity of workers that the region was not able to provide. Hiring them from other regions, especially São Paulo, increased wage costs and affected investments profitability. Moreover, few were adapted to the lifestyle of Goiás' small cities where sugarcane-processing plants are located. Our aim is to analyze the mechanisms that allowed the region to overcome the absence of qualified labor, supporting the development of sugarcane agroindustry. The paper discusses the growth of ethanol and sugar production in Goiás between 2006 and 2013. Thereafter, we show how it influenced the creation of a demand and supply of workers with the skills required in this activity.

AUTHORS' SUMMARYBrazil's First Ethanol Program (ProAlcool), launched in 1975, was a direct response to the dramatic rise in imported petroleum prices in 1973. The military government of the time saw this as a challenge to Brazil's financial stability and energy security, since the country imported 80% of the fuel used by its transport sector. Moreover, Brazil had extensive sugar plantations that were facing increased challenges to their exports from European Union trading preferences with African, Caribbean, and Pacific countries and the emergence of corn syrup and other close substitutes for sugar.ProAlcool was initially a classic import substitution policy. Subsidies were used to expand ethanol production, then in its infancy, and to induce vehicle users to shift to dedicated engines for ethanol that could handle a gasoline blend with more than 5-10% ethanol. When gasoline prices fell a few years later, those who had shifted were left paying the higher costs of ethanol, while the original problem of oil imports remained.
