Bu araştırma, halkımızın engelli bireylere yönelik duyarlılık düzeylerini demografik özelliklerine bağlı olarak sosyal hizmet bağlamında incelemek amacıyla yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın örneklemini, 2018 yılında Konya iline bağlı Meram, Selçuklu ve Karatay merkez ilçelerinde yaşayan halk arasından tesadüfi örneklem yöntemi ile seçilen 300 kişi oluşturmuştur. Bu çalışmanın yürütülmesinde “genel tarama modeli” kullanılmıştır. Verilerin elde edilmesinde ise anket tekniği uygulanmıştır. Araştırmada öncelikle, halkın engelli bireylere yönelik duyarlılıklarını belirlemek amacıyla tutum ölçeği geliştirilmiştir. Ölçeğin geçerlilik ve güvenirlik çalışması yapılmıştır. Daha sonra örneklem grubunun “Engelli Bireylere Yönelik Duyarlılık Ölçeği”nin ortalama puanı, tablo halinde yorumlanmıştır. En sonunda bu ölçeğin katılımcıların demografik özellikleriyle ilişkili olup olmadığı Pearson Korelasyon Katsayısı hesaplanarak irdelenmiştir. Araştırma kapsamına alınan örneklem grubunun, engelli bireylere yönelik olumlu tutumlara sahip oldukları (X= 3.68), ancak aynı zamanda engelli bireylere yönelik önyargılara da sahip oldukları (X= 2.79) ve bu nedenle ölçeğin genelinde engelli bireylere karşı yeterince duyarlı olmadıkları (X= 3.24) saptanmıştır.
