The ASTRA Toolbox: A platform for advanced algorithm development in electron tomography

Abstract: We present the ASTRA Toolbox as an open platform for 3D image reconstruction in tomography. Most of the software tools that are currently used in electron tomography offer limited flexibility with respect to the geometrical parameters of the acquisition model and the algorithms used for reconstruction. The ASTRA Toolbox provides an extensive set of fast and flexible building blocks that can be used to develop advanced reconstruction algorithms, effectively removing these limitations. We demonstrate this flexib… Show more

“…All reconstruction methods were applied with 200 iterations, with the exception of the CGLS-NLST method, where this parameter was optimized for lowest RRMSE with respect to the ground truth image. The algorithms were implemented with the ASTRA toolbox [25]- [27].…”

“…The tomography projections for attenuation and dark field were reconstructed with SIRT (ASTRA toolbox) [21]. The dark-field projections were reconstructed as (1 -dark-field) to set the air-region around the sample to zero.…”

“…The reduction of the interferograms to projections of attenuation, differential phase contrast, and dark-field (small angle scattering) images was done with a vectorized least square algorithm [17]. The tomography projections were reconstructed with the Advanced Photon Source "TomoPy" package, including the simultaneous iterative reconstruction technique (SIRT) (ASTRA toolbox) [18].…”
