“…Christian Zionism 'ascribes vital theological, and often eschatological, importance to the Jewish presence in Israel' (Shapiro, 2012: 647). Shapiro's discussion of Christian Zionism associates the theology's roots with several Protestant thinkers in nineteenth-century Great Britain who viewed the restoration of Jews to the land of Israel as an essential element of God's plan for the salvation of humanity (Aldrovandi, 2011;Ariel, 2006;Clark, 2007;Engberg, 2016;Hajja, 2006;Smith, 2013;Tuchman, 1956;Weber, 2004). “…In another article submitted to History and Anthropology , I outline how Israel plays into the eschatological hopes of evangelicals. Zionism is a central political and theological tenet of their hopes for Christ to return to claim his kingdom on earth as it is in heaven (Haija, 2006; Inbari et al, 2020). Therefore, a president with weak support of Israel is asking for God's condemnation on America, as Jeremiah references, and prevents Jesus' return by not returning Israel to a strong nation for Jews to flourish.…”

“…When Rantisi fell victim to a successful Israeli assassination in April 2004, the administration, having finally learned its lesson, defended the action right off the bat. The fact that in both of these cases the protest did not emanate from the 'usual suspects', that is, American Jewish organizations, showcases the ability of Christian conservatives to mobilize their members in defense of Israel (Haija, 2006).…”
