The Architectural Information System Siarch3d-Univaq for Analysis and Preservation of Architectural Heritage

Abstract: The research group of L'Aquila University defined a procedure to create an architectonical Information System called SIArch-Univaq. This information system can be integrated with "Risk Map" Italian database. The SIArch-Univaq is based on importation of architectonical three-dimensional photorealistic models in GIS environment. 3D models are realised according to building constructive elements, derived by a critical architectonic surveying; the importation of models into GIS allows the interrogation of the cons… Show more

“…When considering the binomial HBIM/GIS, the studies usually try to manage the object-oriented model into the GIS environment in order to offer system support for planning and building, simplifying thematic analysis and synthetic elaborations, technical-economical evaluations, virtual restoration hypothesis and so on [19][20][21][22]. It has also to be considered that, as in this case we are facing with an existing building, it is fundamental not only to think about the integration between the standards, but also the geo-referencing accuracy of the existing building in a 3D GIS environment.…”

“…The same tool, i.e. ArcGIS, is also utilized in the work by Centofanti et al [7] in order to create an architectural information system specifically designed for the purposes of cultural heritage management and maintenance. This work also states that current BIM software is still immature for the tasks of heritage preservation.…”
