The application of Valve-Regulated Lead Acid batteries to wind power generation system

Abstract: Electric power generation systems using renewable energy sources have an advantage of no greenhouse effect gas emission. Using these systems, we have the essential problem of the fluctuation of electric power output, however. In order to solve this problem, one of the solutions is the combination of the renewable energy system with the battery energy storage system. The VRLA batteries manufactured by Shin-Kobe have been used in order to smooth the fluctuations of the wind power generation. On the basis of thes… Show more

“…Energy storage system (ESS) is required to keep constant output power as in [7,8]. Batteries and supercapacitor (SC) are types of ESS that have higher speed response than other traditional ESS that has mechanical parts [9,10]. In [11,12] batteries are used with wind energy to improve response and stability.…”

“…Energy capacitor system (ECS) [12][13], battery energy storage system (BESS) [14][15][16], superconducting magnetic energy storage system (SMES) [17][18][19], and flywheel energy storage system (FESS) [20] are very effective tools as having both active and reactive power control abilities. STATCOM is also found to be a potential candidate to stabilize fixed speed WTGS [21][22][23].…”
