The application of CPS in library management: a survey

Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this paper is to present the current state research of cyber-physical system (CPS) and its application in libraries. CPS is a kind of large-scale and networked system that consists of physical and cyber elements and is currently of interest in academia, industry and government. In this survey, the definitions, theoretical foundation and basic applications of CPS are systematically reviewed. In addition, the development of library and current research of CPS application in library managem… Show more

“…In recent decades, libraries as institutions have undergone a huge transformation: from watchtowers of knowledge focused primarily on the protection of collections, to resilient service institutions focused on satisfying the changing needs of their clients (Lynch and Smith, 2001;Coleman et al, 2016;Tzanova, 2020). The profile and structure of library collections have been transformed from printed publications into a mixed model that combines traditional library services with online services, heading towards so-called smart libraries that apply sophisticated, highly automated, intelligent solutions to better serve their users (Chan and Chan, 2018;Liang and Chen, 2020;Asemi et al, 2021). This may suggest that libraries have survived this change and that following new trends is a condition for their survival.…”

“…In the article entitled “Cyber Physics System: A Review,” Jiang et al (2020a) discuss the challenges of CPS as well as the directions for future studies on CPS. The article entitled “The Application of CPS in Library Management: A Survey” Liang and Chen, H. (2020) present the current state research of CPS and its application in libraries. The vision and challenge of smart libraries are also discussed.…”

“…Library can provide high-quality, thoughtful, convenient and efficient services to publics with the application of CPS. Liang and Chen (2018) survey the definitions, theoretical foundation and basic applications of CPS in library. They find that a lot of CPS technology applications are still in initial stage, and explores CPS potential impacts on libraries.…”
