“…The crown, a peculiar anatomical structure found in the buds of several genera of the Coniferales such as Abies, Cedriis, Larix, Pseudotsuga, Ficea, Sequoia, Taxiis, Torreya, and Tsuga (Venn 1965), has been described as a layer of four to seven extremely thick-walled cells separating the mature portion of the previous year's shoot from the young tissues of the bud (Lewis and Dowding 1924).
