The Anatomical Relationship Between Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve and First Tracheal Ring in Males and Females

Abstract: ObjectivesDespite the modern advances in thyroid surgery, recurrent laryngeal nerve (rln) paralysis is still a critical problem. In order to decrease the rate of this complication, rln anatomy has been studied intensively. In our study, we aimed to recognize the relationship of rln and landmarks of the first tracheal ring.MethodsEighty-six female and 18 male patients who were undergone total thyroidectomy were included in this study. Trachea vertical height (tvh), right recurrent laryngeal nerve height (rrh), … Show more

“…Subjective tinnitus has been associated with a larger platelet count and volume (52)(53)(54)(55)(56). Interestingly, the minor allele of KCNQ1 rs163171 has been associated with larger platelet count, mean platelet volume, and other inflammatory markers (57).…”

“…Thyroidectomy is one of the most frequent surgeries in the head and neck field. 1 Recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) injury is considered one of the most fearful complications that the surgeon might face. It leads to abnormalities in mobility and atrophy of the vocal folds which eventually results in deterioration of voice quality and aspiration.…”
