The amino acid sequence of Phaseolus aureus L. (mung-bean) cytochrome c

Abstract: The amino acid sequence of Phaseolus aureus L. (mung-bean) cytochrome c has been determined. The molecule consists of a single polypeptide chain of 111 amino acid residues and is homologous with other mitochondrial cytochromes c. Comparison with the amino acid sequence of wheat-germ cytochrome c (Stevens, Glazer & Smith, 1967) shows 14 differences. On alignment with mammalian cytochromes c, mung-bean cytochrome c has an N-acetylated ;tail' of eight amino acid residues similar to that found in wheat-germ cytoch… Show more

“…The peptides that resulted from the digestion of the cyanogen bromide fragments with trypsin were subjected to an initial fractionation on a column (1 cm x 110cm) of Sephadex G-25 equilibrated with 70% (v/v) acetic acid. These and all other peptides were also purified by high-voltage paper electrophoresis at pH 6.5 and 1.9 (Thompson et al, 1970) and occasionally at pH4.7 (Michl, 1958), and by paper chromatography in BAWP (butan-1-ol-acetic acid-water-pyridine, 15:3:12:10, by vol. ; Waley & Watson, 1953).…”

“…Amino acid sequence of higher plant cytochromes c Fig. 1 gives the amino acid sequences as far as they are known, for higher plant cytochromes c. A comparison of these sequences with those of others shows that higher plant cytochrome c is of the so-called mitochondrial type (perhaps better (-8) (-5) (-1) (1) Stevens et al (1967), mung bean from Thompson et al (1970) and sunflower from Ramshaw et al (unpublished).…”
