Sažetak. Cilj: Ispitati povezanost srednjeg volumena trombocita-MPV (engl. mean platelet volume) s kliničkim stadijem karcinoma grkljana te s histološkim značajkama karcinoma koje mogu činiti podlogu patofiziologije promijenjenog broja te volumena trombocita. Materijali i metode: Retrospektivno su analizirani laboratorijski i klinički podaci 76 pacijenata s patohistološki potvrđenim planocelularnim karcinomom grkljana. Podjelom po kliničkoj TNM klasifikaciji dobivene su dvije skupine: rani i kasni karcinom grkljana. Nadalje, pacijenti su podijeljeni u grupe prema stupnju diferencijacije stanica karcinoma, kao i po prisutnosti vaskularne invazije. Rezultati: Statistički značajna razlika između skupina ranog i kasnog karcinoma u demografskim podacima i podatku o pušenju nije pronađena. Usporedba MPV-vrijednosti pokazala je značajnu razliku (P = 0,003) između skupina ranog i kasnog karcinoma grkljana. Nadalje, usporedba istih skupina ukazala je na povećan broj trombocita u skupini kasnog karcinoma grkljana (P < 0,001). Uspoređene su skupine podijeljene na osnovi stupnja diferencijacije te je dokazana statistički značajna razlika u MPV-vrijednosti (P = 0,001) dok se broj trombocita nije značajno razlikovao (P = 0,132). Uspordba MPV-vrijednost između skupina karcinoma s i bez vaskularne invazije pokazala je statističku značajnost (P < 0,001). Zaključci: Ovim istraživanjem želimo ukazati na mogućnost korištenja MPV-a u svrhu određivanja kliničkog stadija i prognoze karcinoma grkljana. Određivanje MPV-a lako je dostupna i jeftina metoda koja kliničaru može dati važne informacije. Ključne riječi: karcinom grkljana; klasifikacija tumora; srednji volumen trombocita Abstract. Aim: This study aimes to investigate the alteration of MPV (mean platelet volume) in laryngeal cancer. The hypothesis is that different clinical stages of laryngeal cancer and histological characteristics may be the basis of the pathophysiological changes in size and number of platelets. Materials and methods: Laboratory and clinical data were analysed retrospectively from 76 patients with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma. Two main groups were formed upon TNM clasification: early stage and advanced stage laryngeal cancer. Furthermore, the patients were subdivided according to cancer degree of differentiation and presence of blood vessel invasion. Results: Statisticaly significant difference between early and advanced stage cancer in the demographic and smoking data was not found. The comparison of MPV values showed statistically significant difference (P=0,003) between early and advanced laryngeal cancer. Furthermore, platelet values were significantly higher in the advanced group (P<0,001). The patients with poor differentiated cancer had significantly lower MPV values (P=0,001) compared to the ones with well and moderate differentiated stage. The difference in platelet count in the same groups was not statistically significant (P=0,132). Objective: This experimental study examined the effect of erythropoietin (Epo) in a rat model and particularly in an adrenal ischemia-reperfusion (IR) protocol. The effect of that molecule was studied biochemically using blood mean testosterone levels (T). Materials and methods: 40 rats of mean weight 247.7 g were used in the study. T levels were measured at 60 min (groups A and C) and at 120 min (groups B and D) of reperfusion. Erythropoietin was administered only in groups C and D. Results: Erythropoietin administration non significantly increased the testosterone levels by 71.21%+44.19% (p=0.1080). Reperfusion time non-significantly decreased the testosterone levels by 65.17%+44.45% (p=0.0792). However, erythropoietin administration and reperfusion time together produced a non-significant combined effect in increasing the testosterone levels by 27.65%+27.21% (p= 0.3006). Conclusions: Erythropoietin administration whether it interacted or not with reperfusion time has increasing non significant short-term effects on testosterone levels. Perhaps, a longer study time or a higher Epo dose, may reveal clearer and more significant effects.

Objective:This experiment investigated the erythropoietin (Epo) effect after uterine ischemiareperfusion (IR) in rats. The effect of Epo was evaluated studying the mean uterine congestion (UC) lesions. Materials and methods:The mean weight of 40 rats used in the study was 247.7 g. The UC lesions were estimated for the groups A and C on 60 min and for the groups B and D on 120 min after reperfusion. Only the groups C and D were administered by Epo.Results: Epo administration non-significantly declined the UC lesions scores by (without lesions) 0.15 (-0.5595137-0.2595137) (p=0.4545). Reperfusion time non-significantly raised the UC lesions scores by (without lesions) 0.15 (-0.5676974-0.3676974) (P=0.5058). However, the combined Epo administration with reperfusion time non-significantly declined the UC lesions scores by (without lesions) 0.0090909 (-0.2577992-0.2396174) (p=0.9414). Conclusions:The Epo administration presented a nonsignificantly declining short-term effect on UC lesions scores. Perhaps, a higher Epo dosage and/or an experimental time lasting longer than 2 hours may reveal more significant efficacies.
