The ‑2549 insertion/deletion polymorphism in the promoter region of VEGF is associated with the risk of recurrent spontaneous abortion

Abstract: Abstract. Recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA) is a common health problem affecting women of reproductive age. Altered expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) has been associated with spontaneous abortion. The present case-control study aimed to evaluate the impact of the 18-bp insertion/deletion (ins/del) polymorphism (rs35569394) in the promoter region of the VEGF gene on idiopathic RSA. Genomic DNA from 93 patients with RSA and 93 healthy fertile women of southeastern Iran was isolated using… Show more

“…It has been reported that there was significant high levels of serum VEGF among a subpopulation of Iranian URSA cases (Amirchaghmaghi et al, ). Moreover, another group has reported that the 18‐bp ins/del polymorphism in VEGF significantly increased the risk of RSA in a sample of southeast Iranian cases (Hashemi et al, ). Micro‐RNAs are a class of noncoding RNAs involved in posttranscriptional regulation through mRNA degradation or block of translation (Bartel, ).…”

“…12,13 Human VEGF gene spans 14 kb on chromosome 6.p12-p21 and consists of eight exons and seven introns. 14,15 Previous studies showed that VEGF messenger RNA (mRNA) was upregulated in urothelial carcinoma including BCa. 16,17 Furthermore, overexpression of VEGF has also been demonstrated in upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma and BCa, which could be utilized as a prognostic factor for these cancers.…”
