Thank you reviewers- CytoJournal 2007

Abstract: Significant efforts, time, and resources are devoted for peer-reviewing numerous CytoJournal manuscripts. The Editorial Board of CytoJournal shares a significant proportion of this activity. Additional peers are requested to join periodically as 'academic editors' and reviewers to review CytoJournal manuscripts. We thank all the reviewers and academic editors for their time and efforts for completing the peer-review of CytoJournal manuscripts during 2006. The continued success of this important academic exerci… Show more

“…Further, collecting cytology samples in weak alcohol fixatives such as Saccomanno Collection fluid, Cytolyt TM , PreservCyt TM , or CytoRich TM Red would interfere with IHC. [ 22 - 27 ] This is due to the decreased availability of exposed epitopes that can bind to the antibody. It is here where the utility of cell blocks becomes relevant.…”

“…Meanwhile, if it is hypocellular (<1 mL with Tissuecrit <50%), Nano-NCGB TM kit should be used for obtaining proper concentration. [ 22 - 24 , 29 ] Cell block slides are finally viewed under the microscope to arrive at a histopathological diagnosis. Furthermore, IHC or molecular studies can be performed on cell blocks to reveal the true nature of the lesion as well as identify the subset of patients who will likely benefit from targeted therapy.…”

“…Although the basic approach with SCIP evaluation would be the same, the suggested combination of immunomarkers may be modified for a given laboratory, depending on the pathologist’s experience with a particular immunomarker, the quality of immunostaining, and the accessibility of resources with additional availability of improved immunomarkers in future. “…A variety of elective ancillary studies required to support and refine the cytopathologic interpretation of various cytology specimens can be performed on cell-blocks with many benefits [ 1 , 2 ] including multiple advantages due to the application comparable to the Subtractive Coordinate Immunoreactivity Pattern (SCIP) approach. [ 3 ] To list a few, the types of ancillary studies which can be performed on cell-blocks include special stains for organisms and other different histochemistry tests, immunohistochemistry (IHC) with SCIP approach, and many types of molecular studies [ Figures 1 - 3 ]. [ 3 ] The application of IHC on cell-blocks is discussed in detail in other reviews.…”
