Textured PMN–PT and PMN–PZT

Abstract: A promising way to improve the performance of piezoelectric ceramics is grain orientation by templated grain growth. In this work lead‐based piezoelectric ceramics Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)0.68Ti0.32O3 (PMN–32PT) and Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)0.42(Ti0.638Zr0.362)0.58O3 (PMN–37PT–21PZ) ceramics were textured via templated grain growth process. For texturization (001)‐oriented BaTiO3 (BT) platelets (approximately 10 μm × 10 μm × 2 μm) were utilized as templates. The texturized ceramics were accomplished by aligning the templates by ta… Show more

“…It is not clear why (002) and (200) peaks are stronger than (001) and (100) peaks, but the phenomena like this have been observed in other works about oriented perovskite ceramics. 22) The SEM images of the surface of the sintered sample are shown in Fig. 7.…”

“…Textured PMN-PT obtained by this process shows better piezoelectric properties than random ceramic PMN-PT, and can approach Bridgman single crystal performance. [6][7][8][9][10][11] The TGG process allows for the development of crystallographic texture in polycrystalline ceramics by growth of template particles aligned during tape casting. Template growth is driven by the difference in the surface free energy between the matrix grains and the larger template crystal during heat treatment.…”

“…Several other studies have reported that T C of textured PMN-PT ceramics is decreased due to the existence of heterogeneous templates (such as BaTiO 3 , SrTiO 3 ). 9,14 In case of SrTiO 3 textured PMN-PT, the depolarization temperature was unacceptably low ($60 C). 9 In contrast, the T C of T-5BT textured ceramics was still high on the order of 198 C. However, we found that T-5BT ceramic has problem related to temperature stability of piezoelectric properties.…”
