Tetraspanin 1 promotes endometriosis leading to ovarian clear cell carcinoma

Abstract: Ovarian clear cell carcinoma (OCCC) reportedly develops from endometriosis. However, the molecular mechanism underlying its malignant progression to OCCC remains elusive. This study aimed to identify an essential gene in the malignant transformation of endometriosis to OCCC. We performed RNA sequencing in formalin‐fixed, paraffin‐embedded (FFPE) tissues of endometriosis (n = 9), atypical endometriosis (AtyEm) (n = 18), adjacent endometriosis to OCCC (AdjEm) (n = 7), and OCCC (n = 17). We found that tetraspanin… Show more

“…Experimental evidence suggests that a higher expression of CXCL8 in ovarian cancer cells is associated with metastasis and angiogenesis [ 36 , 37 ]. TSPAN1 is reported to be overexpressed in both ovarian cancer tissue and cell lines [ 38 ]. Keratin 19 (KRT19) is reported to be upregulated in response to the overexpression of the kallikrein related peptidase 4 (KLK4), with suggested a downstream increase of malignancy by lower sensitivity to paclitaxel treatment in ovarian cancer [ 39 ].…”

“…ATP5MC3 and ACSL3 have also been associated with iron death. The above studies show the importance of these iron death related differential genes in their prognostic characteristics [ 29 ]. Kaplan-Meier survival curve shows that these seven iron death-related genes are significantly related to OS in patients with renal clear cell carcinoma, reflecting great prognostic value.…”

“…From the genetic point of view, the malignant transformation of endometriosis to ovarian cancer might be triggered by some essential genes. A recent study used RNA sequencing of several types of tissues ranging from normal endometriosis to atypical endometriosis and ovarian cancer and found significant significantly increased levels of mRNA of tetraspanin 1 [45]. These data were confirmed by evaluation of tetraspanin 1 protein levels.…”
