Testing for Anti-Human Transglutaminase Antibodies in Saliva Is Not Useful for Diagnosis of Celiac Disease

Abstract: In conclusion, because of its low sensitivity, saliva is not a useful source of CD-related autoantibodies for diagnostic purposes. Subsequently, using a similar fluid‐phase RIA format and in contrast with data obtained with a salivary ELISA immunoassay, 22 we found that it is possible to detect with high sensitivity, the tTG autoantibodies at the CD diagnosis also in human saliva 17 .
