Testicular cancer mortality in the Americas, 1980–2003

Abstract: In this study, we developed a mathematical model for olefin copolymerization using soluble Ziegler–Natta catalysts in a semibatch reactor to predict the reaction rate and polymer characteristics (i.e., molecular weight, polydispersity, and ethylene content) as functions of the reaction parameters (i.e., time, temperature, pressure, concentrations, and so on) accurately. The proposed model differs from others because it considers the olefin copolymerization as a dynamic process and applies double moments for tw… Show more

“…With reference to testicular cancer the favourable trends observed in most European countries over the last decades are consistent with those observed in the United States (21,22) although with a substantial delay, particularly in central/eastern Europe. Testicular cancer is one of the most curable neoplasm, the favourable pattern in mortality is largely attributed to the introduction (since1970s)of effective treatments, mainly platinum-derived chemotherapy.…”

“…In Mexico, despite the favorable trend in HL mortality registered over the last decade, rates in 2007 were twofold higher than those registered in the United States, Brazil and Argentina, likely reflecting difficulties in the adoption of modern effective therapies. This delay in the adoption of effective treatments has also been observed for other curable cancers in the young, such as testicular cancer . Some delay in HL diagnosis in Mexico, in particular in children of the lower economic level, may also have influenced the mortality from this neoplasm and can be related to socioeconomic inequalities.…”

In fact, income distribution in Mexico is very inequitable, with more than 40 million people below the poverty line.…”

“…Mortality from testicular cancer, Hodgkin's lymphomas, and leukemias, that is, some of the major neoplasms amenable to treatment, are not substantially higher in Brazil as compared with North America and other developed areas of the world (Bertuccio et al, 2007;Bosetti et al, 2009). If not largely due to underascertainment, this would suggest that adequate treatment for these neoplasms has been adopted in Brazil.…”
