Test-Retest Reliability of the Motor-Free Visual Perception Test Revised (MVPT-R) in Children with and Without Learning Disabilities

Abstract: The Motor-Free Visual Perceptual Test Revised (MVPT-R) is an updated edition of the original test with the addition of four items and normative data for 9-11-year-old children. Test-retest reliability studies on the MVPT-R are not reported. The purpose of this paper is to report the test-retest reliability of the MVPT-R in children with and without learning disabilities. The MVPT-R was administered to 38 children with identified learning disabilities and 37 control children (aged 7-10 years) on two separate oc… Show more

“…Many tools are available to evaluate visual perception in western countries. Among these, the MVPT-3 is one of the commonly used assessment tool, as it can evaluate visual-perceptual function regardless of motor function within 20-30 minutes [16]. The MVPT is also the most used tool by occupational therapists in Korea for evaluating visual perception in patients with brain disorders [24].…”

“…The Korean version of the MVPT-3 was developed through a cross-cultural adaptation process according to 6 steps including translation, reconciliation, back translation, cognitive debriefing, feedback, and final reconciliation [16,17]. A preliminary forward translation of the English version was done to produce the Korean version of the MVPT-3.…”

“…In particular, the time required for MVPT-3 significantly decreased after the training program. The MVPT-3 is easily conducted within 20-30 minutes in people aged 4-95 years [5,10]. This patient performed the MVPT-3 in 52 minutes before the 3D printing pen training program, 4/6 https://doi.org/10.12786/bn.2017.10.e8…”

“…Because nonmotor visual-perceptual tests could minimize the motor effect on visual-perceptual performance, these tests are suitable for children with motor impairment (e.g., cerebral palsy). The reliabilities of the MVPT-R and TVPS-R have been validated in normative samples and children with learning disabilities (Burtner, Qualls, Ortega, Morris, & Scott, 2002;Chan & Chow, 2005;Colarusso & Hammill, 1996;McFall, Deitz, & Crowe, 1993). However, to our knowledge, no articles that evaluate the psychometric properties of the tests in children with cerebral palsy have been published.…”
