SummaryEssential oils of three species of the genus Artemisia (A. absinthium L., A. campestris L. and A. herba-alba (Asso)) were analyzed by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and investigated for their potential insecticidal and repellent activities against the stored grains insect Tribolium castaneum (Herbst). Fumigant and repellent activity bioassays were investigated in vitro. Chemical characterisation of essential oils showed that the bicyclic monoterpenes was predominant in all Artemisia essential oils. However, A. absinthium have the highest content of bicyclic monoterpenes, bicycloheptanes, naphthalenes and cycloalkenes.A. campestris showed the highest sesquiterpenoids and acyclic monoterpenoids. A. herba-alba was characterised by higher amounts of menthane monoterpenoids, oxanes, cumenes, www.ftb.com.hrPlease note that this is an unedited version of the manuscript that has been accepted for publication. Kazakh Ziziphora Species as Sources of Bioactive Substances

Ziziphora species represent the prototypical example of the Lamiaceae family. The phytochemicals present in Ziziphora include monoterpenic essential oils, triterpenes and phenolic substances belonging to the flavonoids. In Kazakh traditional medicine, Ziziphora species possess several medicinal uses. In particular, Z. bungeana Lam. and Z. clinopodioides Lam. are used for the treatment of illnesses related to the cardiovascular system or to combat different infections. Unfortunately, the majority of the information about the complex Ziziphora species is only available in Russian and Chinese language, therefore, we decided gather all available information on Kazakhstan Ziziphora, namely its content compounds, medicinal uses and published patents, to draw the attention of scientists to this very interesting plant with high medicinal potential.
