“…In an experiment with fathead minnows exposed to Aroclor 1242 (Monsanto, St. Louis, MO, USA) a commercial PCB mixture, eggs maintained at high concentrations (15 to 51 g/L) hatched with good success, but none of the fry survived [17]. Dial and Bauer [34] found leopard frog eggs to be very resistant to paraquat, a herbicide, until approximately 3 d posthatch, when a significant increase in mortality was observed in all but one treatment group. Berrill et al [35] also found that in experimental exposures of leopard and green frogs to low concentrations of pyrethroid insecticides, ''newly hatched tadpoles are considerably more sensitive than embryo stages.…”

“…Similarly, exposure of B. melanostictus, Polypedates cruciger and Rana clamitans larvae to OP diazinon leads to tail curving and bending (Harris et al 1998;Ratnasooriya 2008a, 2008b). Tail abnormalities (bent or drooped or narrow margined tails) and stunted growth were Toxicological & Environmental Chemistry 2017 observed in Rana pipiens tadpoles exposed to paraquat and chlorpyrifos (Dial and Bauer 1984;Gaizick, Gupta and Bass 2001). The tail deformity of larvae is attributed to the failure of expansion of the vitelline membrane surrounding the embryo that forces the growing spine to curl (Langan 2003).…”
