Using level crossing techniques the fine-structure splittings and tensor polarizabilities of the lsnd3D levels of He I with n=3 to 7 have been measured. For excitation we used 35 keV He + -He collisions. Magnetic and electric fields perpendicular to the ion beam have been applied to the target volume. In this way level crossing signals overlapping if as usually a pure magnetic-field splitting is investigated could be shifted and separated.From these measurements precision values of the large fine-structure interval (n3D~ -n3D2), of the small one (n3Dz-n3D3), and of the tensor polarizabilities have been determined.

Level-crossing signals of impact radiation of He I have been analyzed with regard to the determination of excitation matrices. The signals have been registered at various electricfield strengths by sweeping a magnetic field strength ~ through the positions of Am =2 crossings of Zeeman substates of n3D2 and n3D3 levels (n=4 and 5) of He I excited by 35 keV-He § collisions. We analyzed the signal amplitudes and signal shapes with regard to a spin-dependence of the excitation matrix usually discarded by theoretical arguments. To this end a parametrization of spin-dependent excitation matrices has been performed, and the dependence of the level-crossing amplitudes on the 19 parameters obtained have been studied. It turned out that the observed relative signal amplitudes can satisfactorily be explained by only two parameters, the two multipole components of order k=2 and k--4 of the alignment of the orbital angular momentum. Thus in agreement with theoretical estimations no spin-dependence must be taken into account.

2014 Une orientation électronique est produite par effet Stark du second ordre en appliquant un champ électrique sur des niveaux atomiques excités et alignés au préalable par interaction faisceaufeuille. On mesure les fréquences de modulation en alignement et en orientation dans l'hélium en fonction du champ électrique appliqué. On en déduit les polarisabilités tensorielles des niveaux n 1D de l'hélium (n = 3, 4, 5), que l'on compare aux valeurs théoriques. Abstract. 2014 Electronic orientation is produced via second order Stark effect by applying an oblique electric field on excited atomic levels previously aligned by beam-foil interaction. Frequencies of alignment and orientation modulations are measured in helium as a function of the applied electric field strength. The deduced tensor polarizabilities of the 4He (n 1D, n = 3, 4, 5) levels are compared with theoretical values.
