Tensile tests of specimens made of selected group of the filament materials manufactured with FDM method

Abstract: Abstract. This paper presents results of tensile tests carried out for specimens made of the selected group of the filament materials. As a manufacturing technology FDM 3D printing method was chosen. The selected group of the filament materials involved the group of wood, PLA, ABS, PET, PMMA and ASA. Herein, it should be noticed, that technical data sheets that are delivered by filament materials producers include data that are valid for only one specific printing direction. This printing direction is delibera… Show more

“…According to the results obtained, the tensile strengths are 62 MPa, 35 MPa, 29 MPa and 55 MPa, respectively (Svensson, 2017). Grabowik et al (2017) analyzed wood, PLA, ABS, PET, PMMA and ASA filament material group and material properties with tensile tests using FDM additive manufacturing method. In the results of tensile strength for PLA materials, the value of the peak stress is between 38 and 38.4 MPa.…”

“…The value of the strain at peak stress is between 5.5 and 5.6%. The value of the Young's modulus is between 856 and 864 MPa (Grabowik et al, 2017). While the tensile test results (66.5 MPa) for horizontal, (49.5 MPa) for flat, (26.1 MPa) for vertical values are obtained, the bending test results are (98.6 MPa) for horizontal, (93.5 MPa) MPa) for straight and (42.3 MPa) vertical values were obtained (Caminero et al, 2019).…”

“…That fact allows researchers to enjoy a certain freedom in choosing the geometry of the test sample and the way to apply load to it. However, most of the known works [8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15] on the dependence of FDM (FFF) parts strength on certain parameters are based on the techniques described by the standard [16], developed for testing isotropic materials. In our opinion, a simple and informative technique for evaluating the strength of a part obtained with FDM (FFF) is a three-point bending until the sample is broken [17].…”
