“…The activity of GPx in fresh seminal plasma was higher than reported by Waheed, Gouda, and Khalifa (), which may be due to different assay method, different units of expression and bull variation. The activity of GPx was reduced in frozen‐thaw seminal plasma which was in agreement with Kar, Bannur, Divyashree, and Sudhir () who reported reduced activity of GPx in frozen spermatozoa. The higher production of ROS may be responsible for inhibition of SOD and GPx activity during freeze‐thaw procedure, which in turn may be responsible for reduced levels of these antioxidants in frozen‐thaw seminal plasma.…”

“…Superoxide dismutase (SOD1) is an antioxidant that seeks to protect the cell from lipid peroxidation caused by free radicals [reviewed in (Kopeika et al ., )]. Similar to earlier studies performed in human, buffalo, and chicken, we found that SOD1 levels were lower following cryopreservation (Alvarez & Storey, ; Lasso et al ., ; Cheng et al ., ; Kar et al ., ). These findings were different from what was reported in pigs and fish (Sea Bream; Sparusaurata ) where SOD1 levels were increased following cryopreservation (Chen et al ., ; Zilli et al ., ).…”

“…Sperm cryopreservation is an indispensable tool to conserve the elite germplasm to improve farm animal species (Kar et al, 2015). Sperm recovery from the caudal epididymis can be advantageous after the unexpected death of endangered animals or animals with genetic merit.…”
