Telemedical Versus Conventional Heart Patient Monitoring: A Survey Study With German Physicians

Abstract: The perceived drawbacks are attributed to a general uncertainty about the reliability of telemedical systems, in combination with concerns about personal data privacy, security, and loss of control. The reported fear of not being able to correctly use and handle the systems assumes a low usability of devices. To acquaint medical professionals with the benefits and limitations of telemedical systems, telemonitoring and tele-treatment should be included in the education of medical personnel at an early stage.

“…The results show that the most discussed characteristics of ISO 9126-1 in evaluating the usability of telecare monitoring systems were understandability, which appeared in 9 studies [40][41][42][43][46][47][48]50,51], and attractiveness, which appeared in six studies [40,42,46,[48][49][50]. Moreover, in the ISO 9241-11 model, the usability characteristic of satisfaction was the most discussed, appearing in seven studies [40,[43][44][45][46][47]52], followed by efficiency, which was discussed in four studies [40,46,50,51]. Very few studies have examined the learnability, operability, and effectiveness of telecare monitoring systems.…”

“…While the perceived risk for earthquakes, for example, is specifically related to geothermal energy technology, the broad aloofness towards economic or environmental related risks represent more unspecific fears that were also reported for other energy technologies [23,24], but appear in completely different contexts, such as V2X technologies [25], information and communication technologies [26,27], or, even medical technologies [28,29].
