Telehealth using ECG sensor and accelerometer

Abstract: -The increasing size of the elderly population is driving the development of ambient assisted living systems and telehealth. The recognition of the user's everyday activities and detection of alarming situations are important components of such systems. Moreover, the monitoring of vital signs, like the ECG, has a key role in telecare and telemonitoring systems. Therefore, in this paper we propose a system that monitors the user by combining an ECG sensor and two accelerometers. Our system recognizes the user's… Show more

“…An automated behavior analysis system identifies anomalous behavior that detects and acts upon changing health status based on standard behavioral patterns [23]. Accelerometer-generated data in conjunction with vital signs also can be used to detect anomalous behavior and trigger a response to adverse situations [24]. Fall detection systems are based on real-time analysis of data that deviates from normal behavior and can be widely used through wearable devices in conjunction with cloud computing and API calls [25,26].…”

“…SDI1221, a low cost, integrated 1-axis accelerometer, was used in zero to medium frequency instrumentation applications to provide extremely low noise (5  μ g/√Hz) [80]. A triple axis accelerometer [81–83] and MMA7260QT [84] were used in telehealth monitoring. ADXL330 was used in deciding of the cardiac disease [85, 86].…”

“…Bosch BMA180 accelerometer was used in human behaviour tracing [87]. A triple axis accelerometer [81, 83, 8890], ADXL345 [91], and ADXL330 [92] were used in activity recognition. MC301 made by Wacoh was used in ambulatory monitoring to find human posture and walking velocity [93].…”

“…Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals have been widely used in wireless telehealth systems for diagnosis of heart diseases during the past decade. [1][2][3][4] Reducing energy consumption is a major design concern of wireless telehealth systems since most of such systems are powered by a battery with limited capacity. 5,6 In general, the most e±cient way to achieve energy savings is by compressing the data in the system without losing information quality before data transmission.…”
