“…Similarly, Eocene zircon grains and fossil assemblages within the Man Aike Formation at Cerro Fortaleza confirm a correlation with the Man Aike Formation that has been mapped in the Rio Baguales area of Chile (Fig. a; Schwartz et al ., ; Gutiérrez et al ., ). Oligocene zircon grains from Cenozoic rocks on the south shore of Lago Viedma suggest that the unit is possibly correlative with the Rio Leona Formation that is mapped in the Rio Baguales area of Chile (Gutiérrez et al ., ) and/or the Rio Turbio Formation that has been mapped on the Chile–Argentina border, 70 km to the south (Fosdick et al ., ).…”

“…However, we cannot rule out the probable contribution of Palaeozoic zircons from the Río Chico-Dungeness Arch (Fig. 1a) in the Dorotea strata, as previously suggested by Gutiérrez et al (2017) 100 km north of our study area.…”

“…In the Magallanes Province, Betka et al (2015) suggested a phase of out-of-sequence thrusting and basement-involved reverse faulting beginning in the Maastrichtian and extending to the Paleogene. The deformation and cooling ages of ophiolitic blocks in the hinterland around 74-72 Ma (Rapalini et al, 2008) together with progradation and depositional system shoaling (Tres Pasos and Dorotea formations) (Covault et al, 2009;Romans et al, 2009;Schwartz and Graham, 2015;Schwartz et al, 2017;Gutiérrez et al, 2017) may also reflect deformation in the fold-thrust belt. In Tierra del Fuego, brittle-ductile deformation in the internal thrust-belt took place between ~72-64 Ma ("D1" contraction event; see Torres-Carbonell et al, 2013) concomitant with an uplift in the Cordillera Darwin Complex (Kohn et al, 1995).…”
