Technological Review of Tubular Daylight Guide System from 1982 to 2020

Abstract: T.D.G.S., “Tubular Daylight Guidance Systems”, are natural lighting processes based on the transport of light. In 1990, they were judged by Littlefair as the most innovative technology in daylighting [1]. From 1982 to 2020, this paper is a state of the art on the different processes of tubular daylight guide systems. The key words used to carry out the census are light pipe; light tube; light guide; sun pipes; solar pipes; solar light pipes; daylight pipes; tubular skylight; sun scoop; tubular daylighting devi… Show more

“…The collected daylight is then transmitted through a light guide (pipe or duct), fiber optics (glass or plastic), or scatters through the air via vertical voids e.g., atrium using lenses and mirrors to adjust the direction and divergence of the ray. Then, inside the construction core or served space, the light is diffused by using the distribution devices which use extra optical elements [66][67].…”

“…However, excessive sun exposure can induce light pollution, overheating, and visual difficulties (Singh et al, 2013). According to research, a guiding structure that spreads to provide optimal lighting levels (Malet-Damour et al, 2020). So, if the quality can be changed so that the outcomes are pleasant for humans, we can reap the benefits of natural light (Wong, 2017).…”

“…Solatube is a tube sleeve that directs sunlight from a building's roof to an enclosed room where a light source is required. A study explains the implementation of a novel natural lighting approach (Malet-Damour et al, 2020). When compared to direct sunlight, employing Solatube lowers the excess of transmitted light.…”
