Techno-Economic Analysis of a 600 MW Oxy-Enrich Pulverized Coal-Fired Boiler

Abstract: Oxy-fuel combustion is one of the most promising methods for CO 2 capture and storage (CCS) but the operating costs-mainly due to the need for oxygen production-usually lead to an obvious decrease in power generation efficiency. An "oxy-enrich combustion" process was proposed in this study to improve the efficiency of the oxy-fuel combustion process. The oxidizer for oxy-enrich combustion was composed of pure oxygen, air and recycled flue gas. Thus, the CO 2 concentration in the flue gas decreased to 30-40%. T… Show more

“…Coal is still one of the most important energy resources in China; it accounts for~62% of the total energy demand nowadays and causes many environmental problems such as SOx, NOx, PM (particulate matter) and heavy metals [1][2][3][4][5][6]. The newly discovered Zhundong coal field is the largest intact coalfield with a predicted reserve of~390 billion tons, located in Junggar Basin in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region of China.…”

“…In particular, liquid CO 2 is extremely efficient in cooling thanks to its high vaporization heat. Moreover, the use of liquid CO 2 can reduce the carbon emission to the air, as evidenced by the previous research on CO 2 capture and storage [14][15].…”

“…Te oxy-enriched combustion or incineration (OEC) of MSW appears capable of addressing the conventional incineration issues, through the use of O 2 /N 2 as an oxidizing agent with an oxygen concentration higher than 21% (typically lesser than 30%). Te uses of OEC have several merits, such as high combustion efciency, low pollutant emissions (CO 2 concentration of only 30-40 vol%), acceleration of combustion speed, and promotion of combustion safety [67][68][69].…”
