This research is attempt to check the effectiveness of science textbooks activities for conceptual understanding of learning.The main objective of the study was to develop the conceptual knowledge about science in students. For this purpose, use textbooks activities and different instructional aids for enhancing the conceptual understanding of learners. This study was quantitative in nature. Quasi Experimental research was used to check the effectiveness of use of textbook activities for conceptual understanding of learner at elementary level, which were measured through pre and post-test. An action research was conducted in a public sector, high school in Rawalpindi. Students of grade 􀅫ive were selected to conduct a study. Intervention was carried out throughout whole weak. Pre-test and post-test were taken to collect data and analyzed, by using mean and t-test. The study found a signi􀅫icant difference between teaching of science through traditional method and using textbooks activities as well as other additional instructional aids. In post-test students perform very well as compared in pre-test. It was concluded that intervention has positive effects on students learning performance. This study act as model and guideline for science teachers at elementary level to make their teaching effective and long-lasting during science lesson. This will contribute to better science teaching in schools.

This paper describes a learning system, named My-Bookstore, where students buy (make records of) books (paper books) which they have read, and then sell (recommend) the books they like to others. This system is designed to encourage elementary students' classroom reading and book recommendation. The long-term influence of the My-Bookstore system on students' reading in terms of word usage and perception among 204 first-grade students who had used the system for three semesters was investigated. The results indicated that (a) the students borrowed a large number of books and were willing to recommend their favorite books in My-Bookstore; (b) most of the students felt that the overall use experience of the My-Bookstore was attractive, and the goal of the game was relevant to their reading. They also had confidence in recommending books and felt satisfaction when other students accepted their recommendations.

Effect of Availability and Utilization of Physics Laboratory Equipment on Students’ Academic Achievement in Senior Secondary School Physics

The study determined the available Physics Laboratory Equipment (PLE) for the teaching and learning of physics in senior secondary schools in Nigeria as well as the extent of utilizing the available equipment. The research design adopted for the study was descriptive survey. The sample consisted of nine hundred students who were randomly chosen and fifty Physics teachers who were purposively selected from forty five senior secondary schools in the south western region of Nigeria.Three instruments were used for the collection of data for the study. They are a self-designed questionnaire tagged "Physics Laboratory Equipment Questionnaire" (PLEQ) with reliability of 0.72, a checklist of Physics equipment and Physics Achievement Test (PAT) to measure students' achievement. The results showed that the optimal utilization of physics laboratory equipment is effective in the teaching of Physics. The federal schools had the maximum adequately utilized PLE and had the highest mean score,followed by the private schools while the public schools with the minimum available equipment and least utilization capacity had the minimum mean score. The study concluded that science laboratory with adequate equipment is a critical variable in determining the quality of output from senior secondary school Physics.
