Teaching Model for Evaluation of the Ability and Competence Progress in Endosuture in Surgical Skill Laboratory

Abstract: Background : Laparoscopic manual suturing is probably the most difficult skill to be acquired in minimally invasive surgery. However, laparoscopic exercise endo-sutures can be learned with a simulator and are of great practical importance and clinical applicability, absorbing concepts that are immediately transferred to the operating room. Aim : To assess the progression of skills competence in endo-sutures through realistic simulation model of systematized education. Method : Evaluation of the progression… Show more

“…Future progress will require methodological refinements in outcome evaluation and rigorous evaluation on interventions already suggested, many of which such as practice error and complications are well-conceptualized and widely endorsed. With the completion of simulated medical education facilities in recent years, the simulated medical training laboratory transformation in laparoscopic surgical suture has achieved great results (50). Clinical diagnostic medicine is gradually establishing laboratory conditions to simulated skills training, which is the research hotspot of laboratory simulation-based medical education at present (51).…”

“…Furthermore, the ethical implications of learning using humans and the legal risks during such a process are to be considered. Training, particularly in laparoscopic surgery, must be done in a step-wise fashion of increasing difficulty, first encompassing skills that are fundamental to understand the tools used during the procedure, then the procedure in itself, according to the level of complexity 9 , 14 . In this way, virtual reality (VR) is an educational tool of great potential, able to provide practice in an ambient controlled and free from the pressure of the operating room 1 , and, as shown in a systematic review of 22 studies with 622 participants, to enhance the training of basic skills that will be transferred to the operating room practice 19 .…”
