Research into online instruction as an alternative to traditional teaching has indicated its role in facilitating student learning with the use of technology in times of COVID-19 pandemic. However, an intriguing question is how to conduct this mode of teaching English reading within the Vietnamese context. In Vietnam, little information has examined the challenges that high school teachers and students encountered in implementing online English reading classes to meet the needs and interests of the student and facilitate instructional practices. This study is therefore aimed to look into this area of interest. A mixed-methods study was used with fifty teachers and one hundred high school students. Data were collected from questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The findings show that online instruction in reading classes challenged teachers and students to use technology, prepare lesson contents, and assess student comprehension. Implications are provided to teachers and students for the sake of the quality of online instruction. Article visualizations:<img src="/-counters-/edu_01/0258/a.php" alt="Hit counter" />

Ministry of Education highlights the role of teachers in improving students' literacy, and the Text-Based Approach has shown its capability in improving students’ literacy skills. It can be seen that the Text-Based Approach is implemented in the latest curriculum Kurikulum Merdeka. In relation to the post-pandemic era, online learning is familiarly applied in educational settings. However, it is not easy to implement a Text-Based Approach in an online learning setting. Thus, this research seeks to investigate the difficulties in implementing a Text-Based Approach for teaching reading in the online setting and explore teachers’ strategies in dealing with the difficulties. This research used a qualitative method through open-ended questionnaires as an initial screening and online interview with five High School English Teachers in West Java, Bandung. The findings show that the issues faced by the teachers are miscommunication in learning due to unstable connectivity, limited teaching duration, and technical errors.

Arabic as a means of communication and the language of Islam, it is also an international language. Arabic has not yet become an official language for the Indonesian people, but it is one of the mandatory lessons for Islamic educational institutions. In line with that, this study aims to map students' experiences in learning Arabic. This study uses a qualitative method with the object of research being students of the Arabic language and literature study program. Students were interviewed privately and openly through a google form regarding their experiences in the process of learning Arabic. The findings of this study show that there are three kinds of challenges faced by students, namely challenges that come from internal language, challenges from students' internal self, and challenges from external. This study concludes that learning any language can't be separated from challenges, but the challenges of each individual experience differences and vary. In line with that there needs to be a solution from oneself (students) in facing these challenges.
