English as a Foreign Language (EFL) means learning English in a non-English speaking country, for example, Thailand and Indonesia. Admittedly, EFL educators encourage the student to improve their English skills such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. In writing skills, teaching vocabulary has important points. Focusing on learning English vocabulary that inserts the value of religious moderation, this research took a case study in an Islamic primary school in Malang on Indonesian EFL Class. With a qualitative case study, the researcher addressed two main methods for two Indonesian EFL students and teachers in Malang. By using reflective essays and interviews as the methods, the data concluded that most of the challenges found had similarities and related to each other. Along with the challenges, the researcher also found out the strategies done by all of the participants such as implementing the values of religious moderation as a way of teaching vocabulary, enriching the student’s vocabulary, and improving the student’s writing English skills.

This study aims to establish and explore students' perception of a corpus in vocabulary learning. The corpus development was completed based on IDM ADDIE. This research was started by conducting a problem analysis that reveals students' obstacles in learning a language. The students' are identified to have a limited vocabulary of the language they learned. The corpus construction and development was begun by creating a script in PHP language. This research produces a corpus with 377880 tokens and five sub-corpora, namely Indonesian, English, German, Arabic, as well as art and design. The vocabularies are presented according to the highest frequency in the language and language teacher education field. The evaluation carried out by the experts of materials, language, and media discovers that the corpus is feasible to be integrated into the learning. Simultaneously, the assessment from students who have attended the corpus' implementation with data-driven learning (DDL) approach shows that this corpus helps students broaden their vocabulary, including the word meaning, form, and usage through observation on the concordance and collocation lines.

Evaluating Telegram Application to Empower the Students’ Vocabulary Mastery

The biggest trigger for the students’ in mastering vocabulary is learning media. The inexistence of good learning media will affect the students’ vocabulary mastery. One of the learning media that is much promoted and used during the pandemic of Covid-19 is the telegram application. Therefore, this research aims to measure the use of telegram applications as learning media to enhance the students’ vocabulary mastery. In this research, the researcher applied a quasi-experimental method. The population of this research was the seventh-grade students at UPTD SMP Negeri 22 Barru. The samples of the research were taken using the cluster random sampling technique, there are two classes as samples, experimental class, and control class, both classes consisted of 28 students. The data was collected using vocabulary tests (pre-test and post-test) and analyzed employing statistical calculations to test the hypothesis. The result of this research shows that the mean score for pre-tests was 45.35 and the post-test was 83.57. Besides the different scores for pre-test and post-test, the mean score of the students in post-test was 83.57 is higher than the Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (75) in UPTD SMP Negeri 22 Barru. The result of the t-test value in the post-test was 2.214 and the t-table value was 1.684. It means that H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected and the seventh-grade students at UPTD SMP Negeri 22 Barru who are taught by using the telegram application have better vocabulary mastery than the seventh-grade students who are taught without using the telegram application.
