Online learning has become a new trend in Indonesian educational practices due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Since the teaching and learning process changes from face-to-face to online, conducting online assessments has become a requirement. The shift brings some challenges and opportunities. This study attempts to describe the challenges and opportunities of implementing online assessment during the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. A library research method was implied by analyzing related research articles conducted between 2020-2022. The research procedures adapt George’s (2008) library research model. The findings reveal three challenges related to internet connectivity and the consequence of indirect interactions between the students and instructors. The first challenge is that online assessment is costly. Both teachers and students are required to pay the costs of internet access, own a digital device, and possess digital literacy. The second challenge is the possible problem of cheating and plagiarism. The next challenge is difficulty to follow students’ progress, interact effectively with them, and handle-less motivated and discouraged students. However, there are some opportunities as far as online assessment is concerned. There is more flexibility with time and space, direct and immediate feedback to students, strategies to deal with students’ anxiety, encouraging autonomous learning, increasing knowledge and experiences in online language assessment, and time management skill.

Online EFL teaching and learning in universities has been conducted for two years during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the EFL lecturers’ challenges in small private universities in Indonesia are still scarcely investigated. Therefore, this research was conducted with the purpose to describe the Indonesian EFL lecturers’ challenges in their online teaching in the small private universities where they teach English. This was a qualitative research which used online semi-structured interview to six EFL lecturers from six different private universities in East Java to collect the data. Meanwhile, those six private universities did not have the official online platform for online teaching yet. The theory of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana was used to analyze the data. The result was that they faced some challenges in their online EFL teaching related to their students’ presence, the bad internet connection, the unconducive home condition, and the very slow students’ responses. Besides, they suggested to the universities to provide the official online learning platform which is completed with the places for storing their teaching administration archives. Hopefully, these research results can be the consideration for the university policy makers when deciding the guidelines of the online teaching and learning in the universities.

Despite the fact that there has been a lot of research on online learning and the use of technology, researchers have paid very little attention to the use of information and communication technology after the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly on the perceptions of teachers who teach at the middle and high school levels. As a result, this study aims to analyze teacher perspectives on the use of technology, information, and communication, particularly in English subjects. A mixed methods technique will be applied in this investigation. To acquire a deeper understanding of middle and high school teachers' impressions of using ICT in English language learning, researchers utilize quantitative data from surveys and qualitative data from free-form writing. First, the questionnaire will be distributed to teachers using the Snowball method. After all the data from the questionnaire is received, the researcher will distribute some questions concerning the challenges, suggestions, and teachers' opinions on using ICT in English classes to obtain more in-depth information. The findings of this study show that teachers have a positive attitude toward using ICT, particularly in the teaching and learning process. One of the most important considerations is that incorporating technology into the teaching and learning process may improve the classroom atmosphere and engage students in the teaching and learning process. Future studies can explore teachers' perceptions using qualitative methods so that the data obtained will be deeper and can enrich the knowledge related to ICT use after the COVID-19 pandemic.
