Tea components influencing bioavailability of fluoride and potential transport mechanism in the Caco‐2 cell line model

Abstract: Summary Previous work showed that the bioavailability of fluoride in dark tea was lower than NaF solution. However, limited information is available indicating the effects of tea components on the fluoride bioavailability. In this study, the effects of the components in tea on the bioavailability of fluoride were evaluated in the Caco‐2 cell line model. Additionally, the mechanism of effect of aluminium on fluoride transport was investigated. The result showed that 10–100 μm of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) … Show more

“…The cytotoxicity was calculated using the absorbance (Abs) measured at 570 nm. The effect of fluoride on the monolayer permeability was investigated according to the previous work [36] , [37] . Caco-2 cell suspension was plated onto the polycarbonate membranes of Millicell inserts into a tween-well Transwell plate (0.4 μm pores; Corning, NY, USA) at a density of 1 × 10 5 cells per well.…”

“…The different extraction techniques will alter the bioactive ingredients observed in extracted materials [52,53]. These extracted compounds could affect their potential cellular interactions and efficacy in cellular models, as observed by Peng et al [54]. Thus further, work is required to evauate these compounds and their nutritional profiles.…”
