Taxonomic studies of Acinetobacter species based on outer membrane protein patterns.

Abstract: The outer membrane protein patterns obtained by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) were examined in 23 named strains and 15 isolated strains of acinetobacters. These electrophoresic patterns, which were usually composed of 20 to 25 distinct bands, were compared on the basis of relatively stable and reproducible proteins with an apparent molecular weight range of approximately 20,000 to 50,000 dalton containing one or two major proteins.
