Taxonogenomic description of four new Clostridium species isolated from human gut: ‘Clostridium amazonitimonense’ , ‘Clostridium merdae’ , ‘Clostridium massilidielmoense’ and ‘Clostridium nigeriense’

Abstract: Culturomics investigates microbial diversity of the human microbiome by combining diversified culture conditions, matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry and 16S rRNA gene identification. The present study allowed identification of four putative new Clostridium sensu stricto species: ‘Clostridium amazonitimonense’ strain LF2T, ‘Clostridium massilidielmoense’ strain MT26T, ‘Clostridium nigeriense’ strain Marseille-P2414T and ‘Clostridium merdae’ strain Marseille-P2953T, whic… Show more

“…A new species was defined by a 16S rRNA gene sequence homology below 98.65% with that of the phylogenetically closest neighbor validated in standing nomenclature (Stackebrandt, 2006;Meier-Kolthoff et al, 2013). The genomes of these taxa were then sequenced as previously described (Alou et al, 2018).…”

“…Dechloromonas and Saccharibacteria are often found in activated sludge [ 68 , 74 , 75 ]; some representatives of Saccharibacteria phylum are able to decompose toluene [ 76 ]. Clostridium species are strictly anaerobic bacteria that can metabolize various compounds, such as carbohydrates, amino acids, alcohols, amino acids or purines [ 77 ]. Thus, microbial communities of different functional zones within a CW were completely different from the microbiomes (Caldilinea, Opitutus, and Prosthecobacter among dominant genera) of activated sludge obtained from wastewater treatment plants in the Moscow region [ 78 ].…”

“…Some studies have proposed that Mycoplasmas are commensal gut or even intra-host dependent microorganisms in Atlantic salmon [29], [95]. Gemmatimonadetes are largely uncharacterised though have been found previously in the gut of sea bream (Sparus aurata) and sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax), at low abundances [96]. Clostridiaceae (Clostridium sensu stricto) are common gut bacteria and are metabolically flexible, capable of metabolising a range of carbohydrates to produce alcohols and acids [97].…”
