Fusarium spp. In the second evaluation, disease levels ranged from 39 a 79 %. Rates of infection increase for these lines were 0.074, 0.051, 0.043, 0.69, and 0.088, respectively. In a maize breeding program these lin… Show more

“…Similar results have been found in other studies using different inoculum concentrations in other regions of the world [69,72]. Contrary to what we report here, Mendoza Elos, et al [73] observed susceptible and resistant inbred plants that displayed a full range of damage (from 0% to 100%), although in a second assay 22 out of 23 inbreeds lines displayed damage ranging from 75% to 100%. The differences between the two experiments could be due to the lack of quantitative techniques and/or the environmental conditions affecting the inoculum.…”

“…It is important to minimize the presence of Fusarium in grain, since ear rot causes severe crop losses (Betanzos, 2001), limiting their marketing, because the tolerable level of contamination is 5% of allowable damage and constitutes a problem to public health by mycotoxins produced by the plant pathogen when its incidence and damage is high (Mendoza et al, 2006Betanzos et al, 2009García et al, 2012).…”
